1944: The Turning of the Tide

In Europe and the Pacific, the tide of war turned. The Russians were coming from the east, and the Allied forces landed at Normandy on June 6, 1944. The American Air Force and the RAF were pulverizing German cities and the industrial infrastructure of the Third Reich. The ring was closing around Japan in the Pacific. The American navy, surface fleet, and submarines decimated the Japanese navy. American marines and soldiers moved from island to island, coming ever closer to Japan.
