Excursion: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum Tour
Historian Josh Liller will provide a guided tour at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. The tour will cover the site’s Native American history, including a pre-contact shell midden featuring an authentic Seminole chickee; the 1892 Tindall House and local pioneer life; native plants and a living shoreline project; military uses of the site; and the 1860 Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and its history. The lighthouse is the oldest building in Palm Beach County and is still an active public aid to navigation. Participants will have the opportunity to climb to the top of the historic lighthouse to take in the amazing view and see the lighthouse’s Fresnel lens. There are 34 steps up the hill from the base of the lighthouse and its accompanying Oil House. The lighthouse itself has 105 stairs. The tour route is ADA-compliant, except for the hill and tower at the end of the tour.
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum is located at 500 Captain Armour’s Way, Jupiter, FL 33469. The deadline for registration is Monday, November 11th. Space is limited
