A History of Palm Beach Architecture: A Case for Preservation

Embark on a journey through the storied streets of Palm Beach, renowned for its iconic architecture and the visionary architects behind it, as well as the illustrious figures who commissioned these marvels. Despite its relatively young age of 113 years, Palm Beach stands as a testament to the commitment to preservation. Its origins trace back to Henry Morrison Flagler, whose vision transformed an uninhabited barrier island into a haven for the elite. Architects like Addison Mizner and Maurice Fatio left an indelible mark with their Mediterranean Revival and innovative designs. René, former Chairman of the Palm Beach Landmarks Preservation Commission, will share insights into the island's historic structures, from losses and alterations to remarkable restorations. Join us to discover Palm Beach's architectural heritage, enriched with personal anecdotes and tales of preservation triumphs and tribulations.
