Seminar: Evil: Religions' Greatest Problem

NEW DATE AND TIME

The religions of the West - Judaism, Christianity, and Islam - are based on classical theism. God is omnipotent (all powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), and beneficent (all good). Nonetheless, we live in a world filled with both natural and human evil. From hurricanes and the Coronavirus to the Holocaust and 9/11, religious thinkers must ask the question, where is God? Justifying God in the face of evil is called theodicy. From the Biblical book of Job to Leibniz's theodicy to Harold Kushner's book, "When Bad Things Happen to Good People," we will explore the question of evil in religious thinking. This program is being presented as a seminar with limited enrollment to foster discussion.
