Following Hamas' attack on Israel, Jerusalem's Northern Front erupted into low-intensity warfare. However, the conflict has escalated, forcing Israel into an untenable position. Many Israelis and Lebanese have become internally displaced. Despite Washington's efforts to contain the conflict, the threat of a regional war originating from the Northern Front is higher than ever. Senior Israeli officials have called for invading Lebanon to weaken Hezbollah, threatening to return Lebanon to the stone age, while Hezbollah has promised a "ring of fire" targeting Israel's vital areas. For Israel, the Northern Front poses an existential threat, potentially prompting a war to change the political and military landscape in Lebanon and Syria. However, the cost could be prohibitive. In this lecture, Dr. Rabil will examine the political and military dynamics of this conflict and explore its ramifications for Israel and Lebanon, as well as possible scenarios that could alter the political maps of Syria and Lebanon.
