Musical Paintbrushes: Romanticism

Throughout music history, music and art have often been intertwined in ways that have created some of the greatest masterpieces in Western Music. How have composers used art as inspiration? And how did such composers transform musical language in order to replicate artistic styles musically? This course will focus primarily on Romanticism as we discuss the paintings of select Romantic artists and the music of various composers from Schubert to Beethoven to Berlioz.
