America at Risk: The Danger of Imperial Presidential Power

Former presidential appointee, prosecutor, and investigative journalist Jeffrey Scott Shapiro discusses the dangers of expanding presidential power and the failure of the judicial and legislative branches to act as effective checks and balances, as required by the Separation of Powers doctrine. With experience as a prosecutor and senior U.S. official, Shapiro is well-versed in the complexities of balancing executive power with Congress and the courts. In this course, he examines four key threats to American democracy: the erosion of the independent counsel's role in holding the President accountable; the misuse of executive orders, proclamations, and agreements; the expansion of presidential immunity; and the use of executive power to undermine the legal protections of inferior officers and career appointees. The course includes a PowerPoint presentation and handouts for attendees.

"When Jeffrey Shapiro was my student, I knew that he was special and would do amazing things. He has exceeded my highest expectations." Jeffrey S. Morton

Live In-Person with Video Catch-up. Available 2-3 business days after the live lecture. You will have approximately two weeks to view the video.
