Marilyn Monroe & Grace Kelly: 20th Century Icons

Rumor has it that Prince Rainier of Monaco initially considered Marilyn Monroe before marrying Grace Kelly. Marilyn and Grace, both blonde actresses who died young, shared few similarities. Born Norma Jean Mortensen, Marilyn had a troubled youth, spending time in orphanages and foster homes. The 1953 hit “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” made her a star. After two failed marriages, her death at 36 led to numerous theories. Grace Kelly, the daughter of multimillionaire John Kelly, acted in 11 films between 1951 and 1956, winning an Academy Award for “The Country Girl” at 25. In 1956, she married Prince Rainier and became Princess Grace of Monaco. She significantly transformed Monaco into a cultural hub. She died in a car accident in 1982. René Silvin will recount anecdotes about Princess Grace and Hollywood glamour.

"This was one of the best programs I have been to. He had such a relaxed way of presenting, but giving us so much info. He was marvelous!!!!!!"- OLLI Patron
