In the early 1990s, Operation Exodus was initiated by the United Jewish Appeal (Jewish Federations of North America) to rescue Jews from their arduous lives in the Former Soviet Union and resettle them in Israel. When the initial phase was completed, there were still many Jews remaining in dire need of rescue. Ron Friedman led the effort and team to rejuvenate Operation Exodus and complete the campaign of rescuing one million Jews and raising $1 billion. This lecture focuses on the history, strategies and tactics to successfully complete Operation Exodus. In the wake of increased anti-Semitism worldwide, the war by Russia against Ukraine, the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel and its aftermath, the stance by Iran and its proxies versus Israel, how is immigration to Israel influenced and what can be learned from the Operation Exodus approach? Included in the presentation is a dramatic video of immigrants leaving Uzbekistan and their resettlement in Israel and marketing efforts in support of Operation Exodus.
