In the early sixties, rock n roll shared the charts with the burgeoning folk revival, Motown from Detroit, and surfer music from California. But then, Beatlemania swept across the Atlantic on February 9, 1964, when the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, triggering the British Invasion. The Beatles led the way for acts like The Dave Clark Five, Gerry and the Pacemakers, the Animals, Rolling Stones, Zombies, Hollies, Kinks, Herman's Hermits, and Freddie & the Dreamers. By May 1965, nine of the U.S. Top Ten songs were British. Bill Bowen and Joan Friedenberg, performing as the PinkSlip Duo, retrace this musical invasion with an educational and nostalgic program featuring slides, commentary, harmony-rich arrangements, and a sing-along.
