“National security” encompasses the idea that the nation must be secure from threats to its people, interests, borders, and sovereignty, including its citizens and interests abroad. Keeping the nation secure requires a solid understanding of the military, political, economic, and cyber threats supported by foreign intelligence services that target the United States. Counterintelligence, namely, countering such foreign intelligence threats, is a key element of U.S. national security. It requires addressing such insider threats as active spies and those that will be unless they are detected and stopped earlier. Threats from abroad span the menace posed by Russian, Chinese, Iranian, and North Korean intelligence activities. This lecture examines such threats and the challenges that U.S. counterintelligence faces in meeting them.
The presentation was one of the best I have ever attended. The speaker was deeply knowledgeable and well organized. – OLLI Patron
