Andrew Jackson (1767-1845), the 7th President of the United States (1829-1837), ushered in the second party system and Jacksonian Democracy, being the first President elected by universal manhood suffrage in American history. We shall examine his early life and military accomplishments, and the many controversial policies and programs that he introduced and pursued as President and as the creator of the Democratic Party. Questions and comments are welcome at the end of the lecture, and there will be a PowerPoint.
