On April 3, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech in Memphis, TN. The following day, he was assassinated. The Mountaintop, a powerful play by Katori Hall, is set in King’s room at the Lorraine Motel on the evening of April 3, and incorporates King’s deeply personal conversation with a motel maid. Inspired by actual events, the Palm Beach Dramaworks production explores the critical moment in history when the Civil Rights movement changed forever. Gary Cadwallader leads an interactive classroom discussion about King and how his death changed American society. Participants receive a copy of the play prior to class, and a comprehensive, informative PBD Dramaguide written specifically for this class. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of the play and a deeper examination of King’s legacy.  This program is being presented as a seminar with limited enrollment to foster discussion.
