Following the tumultuous music of the 1960s folk music scene, America witnessed a new musical style from 1975-1984 represented by the Doobie Brothers, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, and a host of others. In recent years, music historians have been able to identify key characteristics that define this style of music, a style that was once dubbed the "West Coast Sound" or "Soft Rock." Come join Dr. Thomas Cimarusti (Florida Gulf Coast University Professor of Music History) as we explore the origins of Yacht Rock as well as some of the classic songs that define the genre. And be prepared to relive that decade of music as we sing a song or two of classic Yacht Rock songs!
