Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States with a special one-time class exploring the poetry of the American Revolution. We’ll begin with Emerson’s 1837 Concord Hymn for perspective, then journey back to poems by founding fathers Franklin and Jefferson. The heart of the class focuses on two poems each by Philip Freneau and Phillis Wheatley, two of the era’s most respected voices. We’ll close with Longfellow’s Paul Revere’s Ride, a stirring tribute that captures the spirit of 1776. Poems will be projected and read aloud, followed by engaging group discussions. Join us for this inspiring celebration of America’s revolutionary spirit through the power of poetry. This program is being presented with limited enrollment to foster discussion.
