Seminar: A Journey Through the Generations: Understanding Yourself and Your Loved Ones

Generational differences are at the heart of many family conflicts, and misunderstandings. Grandparents, parents, and children may encounter relationship road blocks that are rooted in cultural/social changes that have occurred overtime. While changes are inevitable as a result of dynamic political, economic, and technological developments, the impact of these changes on personal/familial relationships can be unexpected, challenging, and at times humorous. This interactive class will explore cultural shifts that have taken place in the U.S., which have altered family relationships, and roles. Participants will discover ways to improve their most significant relationships by increasing their understanding of the larger cultural, and social contexts within which these relationships exist. This program is being presented with limited enrollment to foster discussion.

Dr. Abell holds Master’s degrees in Counseling from Columbia University and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Northern Arizona University. An Emeritus Professor at Prescott College, she served 20 years as faculty and department chair, specializing in positive psychology and the impact of culture on individuals, families, and communities.
