Paris as a Great Feast - Bundle Eligible

“Paris,” said Hemingway, “is a movable feast.” In this lecture, we explore this metaphor through three distinct Parisian banquets. First, we dive into traditional Paris—the city of writers, artists, and iconic landmarks like Montmartre, Notre Dame, and the Latin Quarter, shaped by figures like Van Gogh, Picasso, Sartre, and Piaf. Next, we taste futuristic Paris, centered in La Défense with its space-age architecture and world-class transit, transformed by the digital economy and last year’s Olympics. Finally, we experience the vibrant, chaotic Paris of immigrants, rich with North African, Middle Eastern, and Jewish cultures. We’ll also compare Paris to other great cities, uncovering what makes it uniquely captivating across time and cultures.
